Our friends at the Waterford MN Conservation Society have sent us word of an important Public Hearing to be held on September 11, 2025. Please read the following:
This Thursday, September 11 at 5:00 PM, Waterford Township will hold a Public Hearing at Sciota Town Hall. This will be a joint meeting of the Township Board and Planning Commission to review and discuss the Mining Ordinance that a group of concerned citizens helped revise with Planning Commission (now Board) member Bobby Nelson.
We need residents to attend and speak.
The previous version of the ordinance, drafted under the former planning consultant and attorney (both no longer engaged with the Township), ignored significant public input. This hearing is a key opportunity to ensure our voices are officially heard and considered.
🔹 Each speaker will have up to 3 minutes
🔹 Please focus on your top issue(s) — what matters most to you
🔹 Bring your comments in writing for clarity and the official record
If you cannot attend, please email your comments to the Township Clerk at:
Common concerns we’ve heard include:
· No special treatment or “cutouts” for unapproved applications
· No dewatering
· No blasting
· Protection of long-term agriculturally preserved land
· Health, safety, and welfare of residents
· Wildlife and environmental impact
· Increased traffic, noise, vibration, and air pollution
· Well water availability and quality; clear well remediation process
· Property value concerns
· Potential for sinkholes
· Any other concern that’s important to you
🔔 Please also note:
The Township Board Meeting will follow at 7:00 PM, immediately after the Public Hearing. This is another opportunity to stay engaged and hear updates from the Board.
Let’s continue showing up and speaking out — in person or by email. Your voice matters.
Thank you for your time, energy, and commitment to our community.
